Staff Development

Staff Development

Picture
Overview

At Keystone Community Resources, we understand the importance of having dedicated and qualified employees who can effectively support the individuals we serve.  Therefore, the Staff Development Department provides a comprehensive new hire orientation and inclusive on-going training for all employees.  We pride ourselves on going above and beyond the required regulations and offering up-to-date, practical trainings to ensure that our employees are well-prepared to be able to provide quality care to the individuals we serve.

New Hire Orientation

Orientation is an intensive two-week process including classroom trainings and in-home observations. Topics covered in the classroom include:
  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED - This course is instructed as per the American Red Cross curriculum and guidelines by certified instructors.  Training is provided on when and how to properly provide first aid and how to best handle life-threatening situations like choking and cardiac emergencies.
  • Fire and General Safety - Safety is the number one priority of all employees at Keystone Community Resources. This training examines how to keep everyone safe while providing care in addition to how to prevent and manage fire emergencies.
  • Defensive Driving - Safety on the road is of the utmost importance.  This training discusses how to handle challenging situations that may arise while en route to ensure the safety of everyone in the vehicle.
  • Preventing Abuse and Neglect - Abuse and neglect are considered unacceptable at Keystone Community Resources.  This training covers what is considered to be abusive or neglectful and what employees should do if they ever discover abuse or neglect occurring at Keystone.
  • Safe Crisis Management – This training discusses the use of positive interventions with an emphasis on individual safety.  Staff are provided with a professional, comprehensive, and safe approach to prepare, support, and positively intervene during client crises.
  • Medication Administration - This course is instructed as per Department of Public Welfare (DPW) curriculum and guidelines by certified instructors.  Proper techniques and guidelines for safe medication administration are taught during this two-day training.  Two written exams are administered as well as four supervised observations before employees are allowed to pass medications to ensure proficiency.
New Hires also spend a minimum of 24 hours observing in the home and receiving program-specific training about the individuals they will directly be serving.
